News Intern (WHEC-TV)

 Job Overview:  WHEC-TV has a paid internship in our News department during the Spring Semester 2022. The intern will work directly with experienced members of our news department in a learning opportunity, where the student extends his or her education beyond the classroom.

 Job Responsibilities:  Learn newsgathering, writing, and reporting by working with our reporters, producers, digital media manager, and other news staff.  Writes stories for station websites using such sources as broadcast scripts, Associated Press wire stories, and raw news facts. Distribute original content via social networking sites. Assist producers with the aspects of producing a newscast. Shadow producers, reporters, and photographers.  Perform other duties as assigned.

 Qualification:  Must be a student enrolled in a degree program at a trade school, college, or university which recognizes the internship for class credit. Will need to provide proof of credit from the institution.

  • Applicant needs to be in good academic standing, and provide a signed letter of recommendation from an academic advisor. A self-starter that thrives under the pressure of a strict deadline.
  • Excellent research and writing skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Prior knowledge using major social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube is helpful. A passion for local programming and storytelling is critical.
  • Working knowledge of the internet and strong computer skills are essential. Compliance with Company policies & procedures.
